Thanks all for your responses on other threads.

So, I got my 'new' SeaDoo back after getting the tank replaced, Got some questions:

1. it runs Great, but how long should I get on a tank of gas? ( found one manual on-line said it's only a 9 Gal. tank)

2. what is the continuous 'beeeeep' when it is running for a while? - manual said engine overheating ( did not seem that hot to me - no burnt fingers!). Someone else told me its the low gas warning. - which is it?

3. ran out of gas, Gas Gauge said 1/4 tank left. also, the res switch did not do anything ( still did not start, and the alarm beeeeeeeeped!

4. Since the Gas Gauge indicated 1/4 tank, and the res. switch did not make any diff, could this guy have replace the tank wrong?
5. I'm thinking of fixing it myself, would a shop manual tell me how the tank is to be installed?

I assume that there are 2 pick-ups that went into the tank, one lower then the other, and that's how the res. works. Because when it did not start, I looked in and there was still gas in the bottom of the tank. ( maybe 1/2 to 1 gal.).

Any ideas? Could I get the gas gauge to reflect the correct amount?

Thanks

Chris

P.S.

Jet Skis seem to love gas!

After looking closely at the parts drawings on line, I bet the tank selector switch was connected up backwards!, does that make sense? Also, can I adjust the gas Gauge to read Empty, when its out of gas?

funny most sea doo fuel guages read empty when they are full I think the tank is 12 or more gallons don't remember exactly, also the low fuel light will flash but I don't recall it beeping on mine, a 96 gtx is a big fat gas hog Im so glad I have a 4 stroke now, if you think it is the overheat sender making it beep pull off the wire conector from the sending unit and see if it stops, those senders go bad all the time. I would loose the reserve fuel switch and go directly to the reserve pick up on the tank, I always bypass those they are just a lot of trouble, pull the glove box and you can remove the entire pick up tube from the fuel tank and see what is happening with the sending unit just mark all the hoses the sending unit fittings are all stamped what each one is for. I just realized it is a gts not a gtx, I didn't know there was a 96 gts thought they started in 97 a gts has a 720 engine those are not bad on fuel and I don't know what size tank you have in that one, look at the vin and see what the last 2 digits are that tells you the year.

Thanks again, yes it is a 96. If the tank is 12 gallons, then perhaps the sender was not placed all the way down? when it quit working, I filled it back up, but only got about 8 gallons into it.

Mine does not have a glove box.

So, how important is the temp sensor? if I pull it off and it stoppes the beeping, can I leave it off? or should I get a new one?

And I did some calculations, between pulling a 8 foot diameter 'anchor' tube, and the two jet skies, after the kids have finished for the day, I have gone through 120 in gas/day!.

Maybe I should introduce the kids to sailing!!!!!!!

ok replace the sender if it is bad, and you may have a 9 gallon tank, don't know why it always stops at 1/4 but now you know to open the seat and look at the fuel level.I run 2 skies a gti and a gtx4tec pretty hard 3 days a week on 100 bucks of fuel so maybe you need to upgrade to a 4 tec my gti 85 hp 3 seater and my gtx 155hp 4tec use about the same fuel , when we ride both going the same speed and distance they are very similar in fuel consumption at the end of the day when I fill them up. Yesterday I rode all day and did a lot of wave jumping where the throttle is being blasted constantly, I used 10 gallons of fuel in the 4tec, my old gtx 787 would have used twice the fuel.
towing with a 2 stroke eats up fuel, towing with a 4 stroke doesn't seem to matter.

Re: Questions about 96 SeaDoo GTS

Thanks Jeff:

The assistance here at iboats really helps with questions!

So, I pulled the wire off the temp sensor and ran the thing for a while full out, no beeps (It use to start as a low beep, and get louder as the engine got hotter)! Guess I will get a new temp sensor. not too bad for a 10 year old machine!, had the marina replace the gas tank for free, so guess I cant complain. It runs great, the kids love it, not too much power, so 40 MPH is fast enough for kids. ( and She likes the reverse, although she has not mastered the lever and docking, still rams the dock!)

Now we have 2 jet skies, and they love it, and chase each other up and down the river. I'd rather have the kids ( 13&16) take these out, then my Bayliner! I'm sure the day will come when they will want the keys to the Bayliner also!. If I could only get them interested in driving, so I can water-ski):)

Now I'm off to find a pontoon. ( and a lift, and a new dock, and a new deck, and ......................) The wife's honey-do-list! :|. This stuff is expensive!. :%

Well, till my next set of questions, Thanks everyone for your wisdom, particularly the moderators!

Chris.

PR - we now have been invaded with Zebra mussels. ( the DNR said it was a matter of time). :'(

120 in gas// now you know why they are called 2 strokes, the first one you get when you see what they cost to fix and the second one you get when you see what they cost to run.;)

Re: Questions about 96 SeaDoo GTS

Actually, when towing something, I was referring to towing with my bayliner. the 120 on gas was for a weekend between all 3 'water toys'.

I noticed that the new SeaDoo appears to take a lot of gas when there are 3 people on it. when I'm the only one, I have been able to run up and down the river (10 miles) a few times, and there is still gas in it!. I also bought a new temp sensor, but the thing has not beeped since that one time!, it probably would cost more to send it back, then its worth ( it came to $35 with shipping). Well, I have a new sensor if anyone needs one.

I also noticed this thing is very stable! I can stand on one side of it, and it does not tip ( like my TigarShark 2 seat er) Also learned you can steer it in reverse, the steering is just backwards!. And I have had no more issues with it not starting!

All in all, it appears to work fine. Noticed it sprays more to the side then my other one, the kid thinks its neat that she can spray others easier now!

Well, its getting that time to put all the toys to bed for the winter, will have to see what its like next year.

Same beeping problem with my 96 GPS. When I bought the boat the wire was disconnected. I connected it, then a while later the beeping started. So I disconnected it again. Also, my fuel gauge does not work. Sometimes all the lights light on the gauge indicating fuel, oil, overheat.

I bought a new sensor unit, as Jeff pointed out, they go sometimes. I wont know untll I take it out next year if that fixed the beeping. I'll let you know if it stops. ( pulling the wire off did stop the beeping)
