Re: Question regarding plug wires

Usually not, late model plug wires are carbon core based and can cause problems with older ignition systems. Stop by your local marine dealership and they should have plug wire on a spool, buy the length(s) you'll need by the foot. The wire you're looking for is 'wire core', several strands of solid wire within the insulation. This type of plug wire was common on older 60's automobiles.

Re: Question regarding plug wires

A friend of mine has a hotrod and uses only marine plug wires. Says he gets a better spark. Of course, they are probably totally illegal.

I noticed one mail order marine supplier has an OMC "Universal" plug wire set, consisting of 22" wire in a 5 pack??? I'm wondering if these will work ok on a V4 Johnny. I'll try calling customer service but they usually don't have a clue about stuff like this.

Re: Question regarding plug wires

You can by copper core plug wire in bulk at most better auto stores. You would still need to attach the plug and coil terminations which is not a big deal. I happen to like the NGK motorycle style "L" shaped plug connectors but the internal resistor needs to be removed.

Re: Question regarding plug wires

I wound up buying a set solid core spark plug wires at a place called Tractor Supply. For $10 or so, I got 4 good plug wires.
