question on spring maintenence on my 1990 v6 mercruiser 4.3L

hi all,<br /><br />first off-thanks for all the past help. you guys have kept my boat in the water with helping me replace my starter last season (after a poor job by a mechanic).<br /><br />my question-and i did try a search prior to posting-assuming i AM NOT going to take the boat to get a spring tune up (and i want to do the work myself), so...<br /><br />Please name the top 5 things i should do to get the engine ready for the new season.<br /><br />my goal here is to do a few tasks each sunday untill she is ready.<br /><br />history:<br /><br />the boat is starting up fine, and i changed the oil and oil filter at the end of last season.<br /><br />i have a clymer manual that pretty much stinks.<br /><br />thanks all (and specially don s!),<br />david

1-Get a Merc Factory Service manual it will spell it out and you will learn it the right way the first time.<br />2-Don't try to take shortcuts<br />3-Only use marine approved parts in an inboard, no auto parts except maybe oil filters

got the merc manual yesterday. didnt exactly infuse me with confidence (im aware it was written for mechanics.<br /><br />ok fellas, forgive my ignorance, but here goes. i think im capable of doing what needs to be done but im going to ask some stupid questins and need some help. <br /><br />ive read don's article above. <br /><br />"Hopefully all the oils, gear lubes, grease zirks , oil & fuel filters, should have been taken care of during winterization. If not, shame on you, time to get it done."<br /><br />Question #1: gear lube refers to the outdrive oil? this is the fluid that needs to be pumped in via the bottom screw...correct?
