I need to know if the rectifier on a 1989 35hp and a 1975 85hp are the same. Have a bad one on my 85 and have a spare on my 35. Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the quick reply Laddies. I finally got it working and my tach is working now. All i need to do now is figure out what prop i need. I'm only turning 4000 rpms.

Re: question on mercury outboard

In theory one pitch equal 200 RPM, so provided there is nothing mechanically wrong with the motor, go DOWN in pitches until optimum RPM range is found. EX: if the motor is turning 4000 with a 19p prop, then you would go down to a 12p prop to reach 5400 RPM. This changes with different loads in the boat, but it will get you close.
