I'm looking for a boat, and this one came up in my search. My wife's cousin has this same but but his is a '97 with a 350 in it.

My question is: Does the 5.0 liter have enough power for this boat? I'm currently an aluminum boat guy and the hull on the Crownline looks huge and heavy. I have 4 kids, typically take another 2-3 for tubing. Watersports are the majority of the things we do; towing skiiers and tubers. Would this work for me or is it underpowered for my desires?

Thanks

5.0L for a 20' boat should be fine. That's likely the upper range of the engine sizes offered for that boat. Lower end boats of that size would come with a 4.3L.

Seven kids and at least two adults is a load. You'll be fine tubing. Skiing is another story especially if slalom. Expect to down prop. If the kids stay into watersports my prediction is this is a two year boat.

you can always drop down in pitch for watersports if the 220hp is not enough. you can also go up to a 4-barrel carb and get another 20hp

230hp ish is plenty for it. Go down an inch or two or high 5 prop it is it’s more towing and heavy loaded you prefer. No bother. These engines aren’t stressed only putting out what they do.
