In the last couple days I have picked up a 7.5 fleetwin and a 5.5 fisherman that are around 1956 models. I know the 7.5 is 56 but what is 5514 on the 5.5. Both seem to run great other than both of the motors drip or tiny spray right around the shift handle. The 5.5 actually spits a little water from the little *** down on base of shift lever. The 7.5 more like drips from that area. They both seem to be pumping well although the 7.5 expelled water from the hole in the leg seems a little hot where the 5.5 expelled water is cool. Is this a fluke or something that is kinda normal? Thanks gentlemen again as always!!!! Mettyfish

The o-ring on the shift lever shaft is shot, letting that water drip out. Really not that big of a deal, but if you go in to change the water pump, you might as well replace that o-ring too. You have to remove the powerhead to do either job.

Water discharge should be warm, but not hot.

Well it is hard to judge just what is "hot", especially from this far away. It should put out a healthy discharge of water at slow idle. If it doesn't, the pump is probably in need of attention.

The leaking shift shaft is not a disaster over the short term. Over the long term it will cause wear of the hole that the shaft goes through, and the shifter will get loose and sloppy. That is simply because the water is washing the grease out. Keep it greased.

Where is that water coming from? How do you grease it? Thanks again. Mettyfish
