I recently bought a Jon Boat with a 1986 Merc 35HP. It was rebuilt a few years ago and vas very clean and ran great. I've changed the impeller (it was shot) and the plugs and the motor runs great. I had it out for a few hours fishing on Sunday. Had no problems all morning until I decided it was time to head home, the motor started and ran fine, but anytime I tried to accelerate it would stall. Got it back home and checked out the motor. There was some water in the motor housing which I traced back to the tattle tale connector on the top of the motor. I tightened the fitting and the leak stopped. After I put everything back together it seemed to run fine. Could the water have been my only problem, or are there other things I should keep an eye on?
