I've read and understood it is acceptable on a multi-cylinder motor with one bad cylinder to clean and oversize just the one piston. My question is , does this not throw off the balance of the motor? I would think considering what finely machined pieces outboards are, at 5000 rpm the weight difference would count for something.

There may be a few exceptions that I'm not aware of, but the answer is yes it is acceptable.

Re: Question of balance

The replacement oversize pistons are made and machined to weigh exactly the same as a stock size piston. This is how you can run a mix of different size pistons and stay in balance.
