I'm looking at buying a boat with a 2001 Yamaha 200 HPDI. The price seems good for $3800. The problem is the motor won't start on gas. I did a compression test with the motor cold and all cylinders were 95-100 psi except the bottom right cylinder was 85 psi. Outside temp was around 85 degrees. We ran the motor on starter fluid for 10 seconds and then tested the bottom right cylinder and it came up to 95 psi. Then tested the cylinder above it and it was 105. The motor acts like it wants to start. The price is good but I'm worried I could sink a lot of money in the motor. My feeliing is it is filter or pump related. What is your opinion on the compression test and health of the motor? Should I stay away from this motor? Thanks!

Re: Question for RODBOLT, 200 hpdi

like I posted before, Ill sell you a junk 200 HPDI for 1000 saving you 2800 dollars.
stay away or buy the boat knowing it needs a repower.
yes you could sink a ton of money into this DIRECT FUEL INJECTED outboard.
this engine has a low pressure fuel system,a medium pressure fuel system and a high pressure system. the high pressure system also has injectors controled by the pulser coils,ECU and an injector driver.
one or more of the above have failed, thats why it will run on ether and not on gas.
by the way, running on ether is incredibly stupid.
shows major neglect of the motor.
