I have a 1986 Evinrude XP150. I want to replace the reed valves because I have fuel coming out of the carbs and it is not idleing very well. The parts list shows leaf valves. Are leaf valves and reed valves the same

Re: Question for Joe Reeves

If you're speaking of having a fuel spray of sorts spit out the carburetor throat when the piston's on its down stroke, that would be due to a improperly seating leaf valve.

I assume you're referring to the above type problem, however and with no intentions of insulting your intelligence, I would add...

If, on the other hand, you're speaking of having fuel flow out the carburetor when the fuel primer bulb is compressed, that's a carburetor problem.
