Question for all web site developers.

I have a small business. It is the remnant of a long time conventional business that had a dealership affiliation with a national manufacturer. For the last 10 years, I have not been a dealer for that company but I have existed on servicing equipment from a long time customer base that I was able to retain. I have not advertised during this period of time and no one who does not know me has no way of finding me. As could be expected, there is an attrition rate that is not being replaced.

There are many more owners of this brand of equipment than I was able to retain with multiple mailings, plus the following dealer has added to that customer base. All of a sudden after ten years, that subsequent dealer has bailed out. Now there are all the old customers that I did not retain, plus all the customers that the subsequent dealer had added.

To date, there has been no new dealer appointed in this area for this product. People are going to be searching for someone to service their equipment.

Here is my question. My business name no longer includes the name of the national manufacturer. If I get a website, in my company name, and describe that I service XXXXXXX brand equipment, will a google search bring up my website? Or how can I insure that it would. I think "KeyWord" is the operative word here.

1) yes, get a web site.

2) register it with Google search.

3) monitor your 'hits'

Re: Question for all web site developers.

I already own a domain name but it is lying dormant. I was thinking of a simple single page website where I could list who I am, the areas I cover and the brand of equipment that I work on. More and more people use the internet to find local service for their national brand equipment. What I do is not rocket science, it is just local equipment repair. It does not need a fancy multi-page website.

My wife owns a website design and hosting company and manages several hundreds of websites for customers all over the country, she might be able to help out, drop here a note at EDIT: e-mails are not allowed. But Boom can PM you for it.

Build your site. Write some simple articles aimed at the DIY person (you have to give in order to receive). Google will find you.

On one or more of my sites I have used all the big boys names at least once. I do not use their logos. I do not pretend any affiliation. If the name is a mark, I try to add R or tm after the name when I use it in any article.

I do have a disclaimer in the footer of all my sites that says, "Any ? Trademarks used on this site are used for identification purposes only and are registered marks of their respective owners."

In 13 years I have never had a problem.

I guess you and everyone else. It's either the flu or a bad cold and now I am hearing about Noro Virus. I got off with a light cold, so far.
