Hi,

INFO: twin 318, 132 hrs port side, 1400 hrs stb side.

I recenty took a 70 mile run from one marina to the next which took 6 hours. Before I left, I checked the oil,water,etc.. everything was fine.

PROBLEM:
That was last week. I just went to the boat this weekend and checked the oil and on the stb side engine, and it needed 1 qt and 1 pt to fill it back up.

QUESTION> Where did the oil go? Dose this sound bad?

STATUS: Engine oil press is 40 at ldle, runs cool 160 on the nose. The valve covers do have some oil on them (dirty covers , I don't know if it's old oil or new on the covers)

Thanks,
Lou

Look in the bilge for oil. If its not their then the engine burned it. Time for a compression check both wet and dry.

I asume you are refering to the Chrysler product 318 cu.in. V-8. These small block Chrysler engines are known for making a quart of oil disapear, with out a trace.
I have an older Dodge van, with the 360 cu.in. engine and over 215,000 miles on it. Before I rebuilt it at 125,000 miles, a quart of oil would evaporate between oil changes, no more, no less. After I rebuilt it, I figured the missing oil mistery would be cured >WRONG< After it was nicely broken in, Adios to a quart of oil again, no more, no less. It's like alamony...you get nothing for your money.
As long as you can't find the missing oil, especially in your bilge, I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't in the last 27 years I've owned the van, without any oil related failure. :D ...Bob in Calif...
