Just a few quik questions I have...
I have a Sevylor HF360 Inflatable Boat
(12 Foot with 1200Lbs Capicity)
The boat is rated for a 3HP motor...

I'm looking for a motor to give me a good crusing speed (faster than one can row or equivelent)

What speed can I achieve with a Electric motor (40Lbs Thrust) vs Gas Motor ( 2 - 3 HP)

I would say gas is much better than electric
more power and faster and no charging

------------------
Jess

To achieve 40 lbs thrust, it seems to me you'd have to be running a 24 volt circuit. That means two batteries...which along with the motor equals a lot of weight. There are numberous feather weight gas powered outboards available... I think I'd consider that option first.

Walt

I agree with Evinrude Boy. A nice little Johnson 4 (to get the gearshift) is easy to carry and will go farther on a gallon of mix than a very good electric will go on a fully charged battery. We're talking many hours here. More weight and more money can get you a 5 or 6hp 4 stroke. Those little buggers seem to go forever on thimblesfull of fuel, not to mention all of the other advantages of smooth, clean, quiet 4 strokes.

There are 12volt electrics with at least 50 lb of thrust from MinnKota, but for your purposes a gasoline engine is the hands down best choice.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB
