Hi All,

I am new to the forum, and I hope to be a first time boat owner soon. I was wondering if anyone would know if a 1998 Chris Craft 210 is all fiberglass/composite or does it have wood stringers and deck?

My wife and I are really interested in this boat, and I think it's a good deal. Includes volvo 5.7 and volvo duo prop out drive (sorry not sure which type). The hull and deck both appear to be in excellent condition. Is $8500 with out a trailer a good deal on this boat?

Anyone know of someone who could survey it (around Austin, Tx area)?

Thanks
Reg

How much wood? Just the deck and stringers? Is the transom also wood?

Thanks

There's lot of wood. Look in your local yellow pages for marine surveyors or contact a local marina, they should be able to steer you in the right direction. It'll cost you a few bucks but could end up saving you thousands. The Volvo Penta drive combo is GREAT, they work a heck of a lot better than black anchors (I'm just kidding). The duo prop setup will really help it cruise nice and jump on plane quick.

Regarding the advice to "pass on the Volvo", only pass on it if the drive is toast and needs mega$ to fix or some issue like that. The VP DuoProps are great, generally considered a big plus on value.

I have a 96 chris craft cuddy 23 foot with the 5.8 duoprop setup. Its a great combo. For what its worth I paid $8,900 almost three years ago...it came with a trailer and is in awesome shape. All markets are different however....

Re: Question about used 1998 Chris Craft 210

Thanks for the advice.

Chris Craft claims (spoke with them today) that the stringers are fiberglass with expanded foam fill. The Deck has wood and the Transom is also marine grade plywood. The storage boxes under the seats and what not are all fiberglass.

Anyhow, taking everyones advice. I am having a survey and engine/out drive inspection performed before I make the deal. I looked at pricing on a volvo duo prop out drive and man they are not cheap.

Thanks all for your help.

So no deal on this boat. The seller will not allow a survey or full out drive inspection to be done. He claimed he was worried the boat would be damaged in the process. I am glad I came to this site before buying this boat. I guess he's hiding something. Oh well there are a lot of boats out there.

I don't agree- I have a 1999 Chris Craft 200 BR and I haven't found any wood on it at all- not underneath the deck, not inside the ski locker, not even the bolster pads are made with wood - its all synthetic.
I know the OP has already wisely passed on this boat because the owner refused a water test but I don't think you'll find too much wood in these late 90's CC boats.

Sounds like he is hiding something and waiting for a sucker. Good thing it won't be you.
