like I said on my others thread I just have this boat is a 1987 with a 350, 5.7, and alpha one outdrive, Rochester 4 barrel carb, last time the boat was run was 2009, when I pulled the outdrive, inside the U joint bellow boot was water and grease I can see milky grease, the exhaust bellow was torn, the shift cable bellows looks good same as the u joint bellow, the bearing is shot is rusty and not turning free, what do you guys think should I replace the shift cable, the bearing, the water hose, the exhaust bellow, and the ujoint bellow, please need advice thanks.

^^^ Yes, also the U-joints. All the bellows should be replaced at the same time.

Being 5 years with water standing inside the Ujoint bellows, the drive's input yoke could be (probably is) rusted up and causing the input seal to leak. If that seal leaks gear lube, it can trash the drive.....

Exhaust tube or bellows doesn't matter. The tube will be louder but even without either the boat would be fine. It is the u-joint and shift bellows that can leak water into the boat.

Don't bother cutting the cable. Remove the top end linkage and just pull it through. Use the old cable housing to pull the new one through if it is tight getting to the transom. Rick

Tie a cord to the top of the old cable BEFORE you pull it through, then you'll have a 'chase cord' to pull the new one up in the right path....
