hi, i have a small water leak coming from the thermostat cover plate.

at first i thought it was coming from the plate gasket, and when i replaced that i also replaced the thermostat gasket, but did not have gaskets for the pressure relief valve. after reassembly i noticed the leak coming from the circular part with the small hole in it (i'm assuming this pinhole is for air to escape the system?). i have ordered new pressure relief valve gaskets. is this a known issue and should this gasket take care of it? thermostats are in good shape. thanks

Re: question about small water leak on motor

It looks like you have a salt water motor there. It's likely corrosion has eaten through and created a pin hole. You could take it off and take it to the local dealer and see if a new one has that pin hole in it. It's not likely though. A cover shouldn't be very much money. You may even be able to find a good used cover on ebay too.

just looked and new ones also have the pinhole in the cover. i have to assume the leak is from the pressure relief valve

for future searches, the pin hole is there for air to escape from the pressure relief valve. the leak i had was due to a bad seal on both pressure relief valve gaskets
