Question about oil pump block off plugs

Okay Guys, I ordered the oil pump block off kits from racer rick's as you recommended. By the way, the shipping was 1/3 of the total cost. Two block off kits approx $12 each - shipping approx $11.

I just bought a lift motor that came all the way from Washington state. Shipping was only $8 for that, and it weighed about 5 lbs. These block off kits were only a few ounces each and were shipped UPS ground (4 or 5 days) .

Anyway, looked in the hole where the oil pump shaft goes and saw a little half-moon slot that the tip of the block off plug looks like it will fit into. Installed them, and they appear to be working fine.

My question is what are the threaded brass plugs that came with the kits for?

Thanks

Re: Question about oil pump block off plugs

When you take the oil line off the motor, (coming from the main tank)you will have a hole that plug will screw into. Good luck and let us know.
CU

-------------------
RUNNING THE MOTOR WHILE LISTENING TO THE HORN WILL MAKE YOU MORN!!

Re: Question about oil pump block off plugs

Thanks CU, I've removed the remote oil reservoir and the engine-mounted oil tank. I didn't remove the oil lines between the remote reservoir and the engine-mounted tank, but I cleaned out the lines and coiled them up inside the gunwell.

From the looks and size of these brass plugs, I was wondering if they went inside the engine somewhere - hoping not though.

You need to, and install the plug.

Re: Question about oil pump block off plugs

Lube, not sure I understand. There is nothing connected to either end of the lines running from the middle of the boat (where the remote reservoir used to be) and the engine. The line is disconnected at both ends and tucked into the gunwell.

The oil tank on the engine has been removed along with the oil pump and all connecting hoses. There's nothing there to plug.

The whole oil injection and warning system has been removed. Installed temp gauges instead of relying on the warning horn (that was bad anyway).

Perhaps if I would have left the remote tank in the boat, the plug would serve a purpose, but now that there is just an empty hose coiled up in the side of the boat, I can't really see messing with it.

The only reason I didn't remove the hose is that it would be difficult to reinstall if, for some reason, I decided to put the oil injection system back on - though it's very unlikely.

Comments welcome :)

Also, want to add that these threaded brass plugs have their threads coated with something (I'm thinking locktite), and only one came in each pack. Seems like they would be used for something other than corking a hose. Thanks.

Re: Question about oil pump block off plugs

Just found out the brass plugs are used to plug the hole if/when I remove the pressure valve that pressurizes the remote oil reservoir. I currently have the valves capped with a rubber boot and will remove them the next time I have the boat out of the water. I plan to change the poppets then and will have the collars off the engines which will make the valves a bit easier to get to. Thanks.

Yes, thats where it goes, It needs to be a positive seal. I thought you still had the preasure hose still hooked to the engine.
