Why is they say not to use car parts in your boat motor, ie: cap, rotor, points , condenser, wires, plugs?? And any thing else. I have 1983 Granada, with 2.5 OMC I/O which is a Chevy motor.
The motor came from a car, just different water pump, and exhaust manifold.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Yer motor was born as power for a 1962 Chevy II,....

'n it used a Chevy distributor, not a marine rated distributor,...

Spark plugs don't matter, but the AC marine are an alloy body, less rust, add an M to the Chevy AC plug number,..
All of the Electrical, 'n Fuel system parts are Not the same as car parts,...
They're All spark protected, Marine rated safety stuff,...
Starters, Alternators, Fuel pumps,....
Pretty much everything but the basic Long Block motor,...

The 2.5l used by GM in all their cars, 'n trucks, Ain't the same motor, it's a 151cid Pontiac motor,...

Re: Question about motor parts

heavier-than-air combustible fumes drop out the open engine compartment of a car to the ground and are blown away.
In a boat, they gather in the bilge creating an explosion hazard.
