Question about installing a table

I was just sitting here thinking how nice it would be to have a table that could be setup so that the driver and passenger seats could be swiveled around to have a table between the front and back seats. In the boats that I've seen this in there is a hole on the floor for the table post to mount in. I know the gas tank is down there somewhere but I was wondering if anyone has ever done this or if you have any other options to setup a table. It would be a temporary table that could be stored when the boat is in use. We've went out on the lake in the evening and sat in the bow and had supper which is very nice. I'm just trying to come up with a better way to do it. I have a Stingray 195FX so there is enough room to place a small table. Any ideas or pictures from those who have done this?

Re: Question about installing a table

Dome shaped bases are available that don't need a hole in the floor. They would pose a tripping problem when the table is not in use however.

Re: Question about installing a table

I've had a similar thought about putting a table in my boat. I'm just not too crazy about drilling a hole into my perfectly good floor. The best I've come up with is to take one of those dome shaped mounts and mount it to a piece of wood covered in carpet. It would be nice to find carpet that matched what's on the boat if possible. The only down side is the base would have to be big enough so that the table wouldn't easily tip over, but other than that I would think it should work. I havn't tried this yet but I might this summer. Right now i use a little outdoor plastic end table that fits in my engine compartment when not in use. It works ok but is a bit of a pain to have to lift my engine hatch just to access the table. I would like something that would fit into my ski locker or under a seat. So if I did make something I would make sure I could easily access it. Good luck!:)

Re: Question about installing a table

you can always mount it with hinges to the side of the boat, with a foldable leg that comes down when in the up position. it probably wouldnt be that big of a table, not sure how big you want.

My thought exactly.

Re: Question about installing a table

I would not mind so much putting a hole in my floor. I don't particularly like the idea of drilling the floor but if my boat would have came with the table option to begin with it would be there anyway. I would much rather put the flush mount version in but I don't know how much clearance of the gas tank I would have or how to check.

I'm looking for something on the smaller side. I don't want it to take up all the available room but I don't want something the size of a pizza tray either. The carpeted wood idea sounds like it would be easily tipped over. I've also thought about the folding table idea and may even try that first to see if we'd even use it as much as I'm thinking. I would hate to go through all the work of planning the hole to only find out we'd never use it. Has anyone else done this?

OK, so you get the mounting hardware, drill the proper hole, say 1 1/2", use some resin material to seal the edges of the hole, put the mount in and screw it down. Pre-drill the screw holes and put some sealant in them to if you want.

I did it and it was very easy. Adds a lot to the boat, IMO. My table is maybe 18" x 28" or so, not big, just a spot for drinks and a few sanwitches or whatever. Stores easy. mount is flush so no issues.

I'm sure any boating supply store has them - can't recall where i got mine.

Re: Question about installing a table

I installed a rectangular Detmar table in the open bow of my boat. I used the flush mount and drilled a hole in the floor. I sealed the crap out of it. It's the same color as the carpet so it isn't very noticeable and you can't stub your toe. I have a nice sized open bow, so 4 people can sit at the table comfortably. I haven't seen anyone else with this, so I think it's pretty cool when I pull it out (maybe everyone else thinks its lame!). The only thing I don't like is the fact that the flush mount is molded plastic, not metal. It does the job, though.

Re: Question about installing a table

Having a table makes a day or evening on the water much more enjoyable. They're factory options on lots of boats. Mine didn't have them, so I put a table mount like you're talking about in the front and back of my bowrider. If you go look at the high-end boats they all use Garelick hardware, like this:

http://www.garelick.com/product.php?pnumber=75349

I put an aluminum Garelick flush mount in both places on my boat. They're not really flush, they stick up about 1/4 inch. Leaves a little bump under the carpet. Front one was easy, the hole just went through into the ski compartment. My boat has a removable deck section over the gas tank I was able to take out and drill for the rear mount without worrying about hitting the tank. I sealed the inside edges of the cut hole with resin, then sealed the mounts with 5200 when I attached them.

I put factory carpet grommets around the holes in the carpet, from SSI (scroll down until you see carpet grommets):

You can see the aft table mount in this pic.

They have flush black plastic plugs which fit in the hole (hole doesn't go all the way through, it's a cast aluminum mount kind of like a humongous heavy duty cupholder) when you're not using the table. I'll try to get pics of the tables in the next few days if I get a chance.

Re: Question about installing a table

Nice picture, but I don't see a table............
ok, there is a table mount there.....I must have been distracted.

How about a folding table? It could be stored at the gunnels, take up a minimal of room, and still be of good use. If you google "folding marine table" you will find lots of options. I believe this is the option I might go....just another thought.

Re: Question about installing a table

I had posted a thread on this exact issue a few weeks ago. I was actually looking for the Garelick oval table to put into one of my seat post mount since I already have 6 of them mounted in the boat from the factory.

But I couldn't find the right diameter. They want you to buy the whole assembly post, table and floor mount, so they make the diameter different than the standard seat mounts.

After I researched it out I measured the Garelick folding table I already use and it was only like 4 inches lower than those white plastic pedestal tables I was looking to buy.

So I decided to stay with the one I already had. Funny, I bought the folding marine table before I bought the boat. I guess I designed my boat around the table like that faucet commercial :D

I store it in my front hatch. It's great. We anchor in a quiet cove and set it up and have lunch and then maybe play cards or scrabble etc.

It's made by Garelick and I bought it off some website (I think iboats carries it too) It was around $59 3 years ago.

It's 22 inches high, 16 deep and 32 wide. The post sets were only 4 inches higher. But this folding table can be positioned anywhere around the boat for us. Where as we can't move around the pedestal type.

It's more versatile than the post/pedestal set up for me because I also take it on picnics or use it around the house for BBQ's.

It's "rock" solid as it's made for marine use. You could stand up on it. Garelick makes quality stuff. I took a few pics for you showing how solid the frame is, but yet it's pretty lightweight.

Could we get better shot of that hole you cut in the floor, maybe from an over head shot? It's hard to visualize that mount from such a low angle :D :) :D

Re: Question about installing a table

My pontoon boat has it built in and has a couple of places the table can be moved to. The mount is flush and not very deep. It's a Sun Tracker and any parts are available through any dealer or Bass Pro. This could fit in nearly any boat.

Re: Question about installing a table

Nice boat 45Auto, really nice!

If you don't want to punch a 3" hole in your deck why not try a flush-mount system? My Aurora 2000 has one at the bow and it works great! No chance of tripping on it and no unsightly holes in the deck! I could not find the exact one my boat has but did find this. It is a little different but i am sure you can find one that works. Hey! Its ~alot~ easier to fill eight 1/8" holes than it is to fill those and a 3"er!

Hey! Heres an idea, if you already punched the 3" hole and decide you don't like it, you got yourself a nice (spillproof) cupholder!!

Good Luck!

Re: Question about installing a table

me and the ol lady are kinda tight with our bread. we wanted a table for our boat too. we only got 19'. here was the answer for us.

folds up nice and small and fits in my ski locker. it's also pretty light weight which is good for storage but bad since it can't be used while underway as it'd probably blow away..

we don't want a table often, but when we do. this sure fills the bill on the cheap.. a bag table i guess it is..
