Question about inboard fiberglass mufflers

Greetings all,
I have a 1987 Cruisers, inc. with what appears to be the original fiberglass mufflers. I am in the process of changing the manifolds, risers and exhaust hoses. Do the fiberglass mufflers need to be changed or do these things generally last for a long time?
Thanks in advance.

They dont rust, and unless you ran them without water, they won't overheat.

They last a lifetime, and they will take a substantial amount of overheating as well. Try torching some fiberglass sometime, you would be surprised as to how much heat they will take.

BTW, if this muffler is on a Volvo Penta, you cant buy one for under $2k (I think the fiberglass is wrapped around gold)
