How different is regular multi-purpose grease from 2-4-C grease? Can I get away with multi-purpose grease for the prop shaft of must I use 2-4-C or something else?

Re: question about grease

Most automotive type "multi purpose" grease is lithium soap or litium complex and is not the best choice for marine use or for boat trailer bearings. There are many good utility grease lubes that would serve this purpose, eg Lubriplate waterfroof, 2-4-c. If you want one grease for all of your marine uses including trailer bearings, choose a calcium sulfonate base grease such as Kendall SHP or one by Lubrimatic found at many marine stores such as West Marine.

Re: question about grease

So, is 2-4-C compatable with lithium or litium types of grease? I think 2-4-C is this type of grease correct?

What about 2-4-C grease being compatable with calcium sulfonate grease?

Re: question about grease

I have a grease gun for the autos and a grease gun for the boat. Cost about 5 bucks. Now I can keep grease specific for both without fuss. Grease is cheap. m.

What Bondo said, AGB/TNG.

Until you mix types and it liquifies and runs out of your wheel hubs. Makes a mess and looks like heck.

Re: question about grease

If you do a web search you can find a grease compatibility chart. I beleive it is not best to mix types.

If anyone finds this how about posting the link back here? Not urgent enough for me to do right now, but something I'd bookmark for later reference.
