Im am restoring a 90 lund genmar 2450..one thing I cant for the life of me figure out is the fuel tank capacity. the first time I took the boat out the gauge was reading about 3/4 of a tank but it was bouncing around alot, It took about 34 gallons and the fuel gauge was pegged at full..I ran about 35 miles that day, plus did about 2 hours of trolling and the gauge was bopping around between 3/4 and full. Ive searched for specs on the boat and cant find any, Im assuming its atleast a 50 gallon tank but some people have told me It could be 100. its stock engine is a mercruiser 4.3. anyone have any idea on the tank capacity, and how many hours at cruising speed i can expect out of a tank of gas. Id like to run it to empty and see what it would take but it never works out that way, i always try to keep it full when I fish..thanks for your help.

Re: question about fuel tank capacity

If you can access the tank, there should be a label on it that tells you the capacity. If the label is gone or not visible, you could measure it, do the calculations, and come up with an approximate capacity. If the tank isn't a rectangle or square, which it probably isn't, measure the closest rectangular dimensions, then add or subtract an approximate amount for the non-rectangular section.

Does the gauge bounce around when the boat is still? If it does, you made need to adjust or replace your sender. Based on the info, I'll guess you have a 120gal fuel cell.

it would be a big undertaking to get to the tank, one Im not really up for..the gauge dosent bounce when sitting still. 120 wouldnt suprise me, my 21 footer i just sold had an 80 gallon tank
