Question about fuel tank assembly?

Hey folks, I bought a new Yamaha F50 and the dealer wants me to buy the original Yamaha 6 gallon tank and fuel line for $350, but I am thinking that If I just replace the female connector of my current fuel line to a Yamaha one, it would only cost me $12 and it should work...

Sounds like an easy decision, or am I missing something else besides just fitting this new Yamaha connector to my old tank and line?

I will sell you one for $250...............or you can just change the fitting.

I run a Yamaha gas tank on my Evinrude, as long as the engine gets gas it doesn't care where it comes from, you are fine and your dealer has some cojones, $350 for a plastic tank and gas line!!!!!

Good Gawd...a 18 gallon Moeller tank off Amazon only set me back $160.
That dealer has a ripoff syndrome going on.

This is what you need for your existing tank.

Re: Question about fuel tank assembly?

motor should have had the fuel line assy in the shipping crate.
yamahas under about 80 HP sold after jan 1st 2010 must be rigged with the new EPA fuel lines.
and they are danged expensive now and went from 8mm to 6mm.
gotta love our EPA.
but as long as your lines and tank are compatible with the fuels your area has then I agree, gas is gas no matter whose tank its coming from.

Re: Question about fuel tank assembly?

Just yesterday I uncrated a current year F75 Yamaha.

Inside the box:
4 engine mounting bolts with washers and nuts (not nylon lock)
Primer bulb w/6' fuel hose minus connectors.
Battery leads with lugs.
Battery lead nuts.
Castle nut, thrust washers and cotter pin for the prop.
2 large zip ties.
Rope pull start

Mine came with the same items as yours.

Well then I guess I'm gonna have to go the smart and less expensive way and buy the appropiate connector.

Re: Question about fuel tank assembly?

like I said, to be legal any yamaha outboard manufactured after jan 1st 2010 MUST be rigged with the new EPA compliant fuel line.
that line and primer assy from yamaha is over 100 dollars now.
same also goes for any other gasoline powered marine product.
kinda like any sterndrive hull manufactured after jan 1st 2010 will have a catalytic converter, the 4.3 and the 8.1 are excempted as GM dropped production of them.
times are changing and boating is getting ready to cost a lot more.

Re: Question about fuel tank assembly?

The fuel hose in the box was black with NO markings......I mean none whatsoever!!!!

Ya would have thought, being this EPA stuff, it would have had some markings indicating laced with pure titanium at $100 bucks a pop!!!

I wish I would have known the hose/bulb and mounting bolts were included.
Bought those beforehand....oh well.....spares I suppose.

My Yammie is a 2009 even though it's new, so I guess the new fuel line wasn't included.

Is this fuel line kit the one you're refering too?
