Question about a driveshaft seal on a 165 mercruiser

Pulled the lower off to check the water pump for piece of mind and noticed this seal in the driveshaft hole in with the sealing lip facing down towards the exhaust housing instead of sealing towards the upper gear case. Is this bottom seal sealing lip supposed to face down or up?? NEWBY here lol..Thanks

Thank you ,Doctur. I knew, you always have the lip towards the oil. The professional mechanic had it upside down. I figured it might be backwards to prevent water from getting on the driveshaft end and rusting it. Just wanted to be sure.
