Just getting ready for my first trip to the
Charlotte's. I need to go to the local outfitters
for some circle hooks and hooches, and Halibut
paraphernalia. We will be fishing for Halibut and
yellow eyed rockfish, ling Cod, Chinook Salmon
and Coho. Weather Permitting we will stay for 1
week.
Anyone have any Fishing tips,or hot lures to pass
along. The areas I will be fishing are near
Langara lodge, the run will be from Start up Bay
to Tcenacin Point out along Rennell sound and
then for Halibut near Marble Island.

I spoke to a guide up there you might want to call, his name is Norm Deserly, I was planning a steelhead trip a while back but never made it up there. also, try calling The Tackle Shop in Sandspit 637-5622..
Good Luck

Check with the locals @ the tackle shops No use buying gear down south when the local conditions use something other than what you brought. Talk it up and ask alot of questions. Most guides and fishermen don't mind sharing what is the "tackle of the day". ;)

If you have room, you might get a couple of Coyote or Tom Mack in pink & white, tow them behind a large triangle flasher for salmon. For some reason, that's the hot lure this year.
And, of course, I didn't have any at the beginning of the season.....do now, though!

Halibut anywhere go for a heavy (12-18 oz)silver jig....and those are always cheaper @ your friendly home store rather than away.

Re: Queen Charlotte Islands

Just got back the other day from the Charlotte's
And I have to say I have not experienced Salmon
fishing like this since the early seventy's on
Vancouver Island. It was none stop action for 7
days, My personal best was a 42lb Chinook and a
52lb Halibut. The average Chinook was close to 30lbs
We also got into some larger than average coho at
very close to 20lbs.
Thanks for the tackle advice guys.
Keven we boarded the SASSY in Sandspit at the new
Marina and went through the narrows at high tide.
Fished Start up Bay through to Tcenacin Point and
out around Marble Island for Halibut.
We anchored in a different Inlet each night and had crab and
prawn traps set for catching some of our supper's
We spent one night in Kano Inlet and anchored near
the M V SALMON SEEKER. What a beautiful Inlet.
I'm Still very tired for the days were long and
the night Sky's were spectacular. Even Northern
Lights on 2 nights in a row made it hard to
retire for Sun up.
I will be going back!

Yes I think your right LadyFish.
It was a fabulous trip. I think I will buy a new
salmon rod and reel for my friend who owns the
SASSY, I must find some way to thank him for
taking me.
