I remember reading a good thread about this but can't seem to locate it now. Using a tach and vacuum gauge it appears my optimum settings are with the screws backed out about 3.5 turns. But I seem to recall a thread that indicated 2 to 2.5 turns is where it should be for a 5.7L engine. Can someone refresh my memory on this? Where should these screws generally be set?

They get set by running and adjusting. Wherever it works best for your engine is where it should be. The book value is nothing more than a starting point that the engine will run at while you warm it up to adjust it.

to where the motor will run properly not to where the govt demands they be adjusted
the number of turns is relative. the condition of the motor plays a big part.
in untill it stumbles, out till it stumbles, set halfway point.
