This was a sound motor right from the start, great compression, only needed minor mechanical work. Re sealed gearcase, full waterpump, plugs, carb overhaul, etc...

Have everything soda blasted and ready for primer/paint. Got everything from Pete McDowell at nymarine.ca. Should look great when done, will be hard to sell :( Buyer would get a heck of a motor though.

Original pic was too large to upload on here, so there is a photobucket link of it below.

The same as sand blasing, but they use baking soda instead of sand. It is superior for the aluminum parts, wont pit and damage it as much, and wont warp the piece being sanded.

That is exactly how they come out, no finish sanding needed. The cowl looks good, not terribly happy with the gearcase, but what can you do.

It's also better in that you dont have little bits of sand hiding within your gearcase and parts, waiting patiently to destroy your impeller or housing! When you are done you simply wash it off with water and all evidence of the blasting is gone.

Makes good sense to me! I've just never heard the term "soda blasting" before. A restoration like that is a labor of love, not much chance of getting your money back from it, but, it's always great to see the old motors back in action!

Looks great High Trim. I have a '61 QD-22. How much was it to get all the bits soda balsted? I've been looking into it myself. My model has a f'glass cowl, which, I've already re-painted, so I wouldn't need to get it blasted. Keep the resto pics coming. It should look great when you're done.

Re: QD-16 Restoration

If you just want the gearcase and a couple small items like I did, they usually charge like 20-30 bucks. WELL worth it not to sand manually, lol. I had the cowl done as well, which was a bit more work, so they charged me 75 total I believe for everything.
