Looks like the family and I are headed to Desert Palms sometime in August ... guess we need to bring our portable A/C units, but other than that, any heads up on things to do, places to go, etc.

Is that Palm Desert? You're going to be a little late to see the desert flowers in bloom, unfortunately. And yes, it will be hot (and possibly quite smoggy) in the day, and potentially very cold at night. Why are you going there in August? :D

Palm Springs is nearby if you're wanting some $pa treatments or the wife likes $hopping  Plenty of those "desert moonscape" type golf courses in the area.

A must see is Joshua Tree Nat'l Park. It is like another world. Hit it from the North off the 62 from either Joshua Tree (if you want to see more Joshua Trees) or 29 Palms (if you want to see more rock formations), exit on the South on I-10. Bring lots of drinking water in with you ;) And if you want to do some hiking, bouldering or primitive camping, that's your spot.

Salton Sea is not that far away either, if you want to go see another un-earthly place.

Yea, Palm Desert ... and it August, well, because that was the time available before school started.

Love the outdoors and hiking, but not the heat ... I am more suited for Alaska! You can always put on another layer, but there is only so much you can take off! Heat is nice when water and boating are involved, though!

Thanks for the heads up about the Joshua Tree Nat'l Park.

It gets WAY hot there. I have been there in August and its pretty much too hot to do anything. If you golf, go out early if you can.

You can take the tram up to Mt San Jacinto and do some hiking. Its a lot cooler becuase its 8500 feet or so.

Palm Springs Tram and the hike on the top of Mt San Jacinto is pretty awesome. Almost as hot as Ghana in the dry season in Desert Palm ... but beautiful scenery. The desert scape is a whole lot different than central PA!

Will ya' post some photos.....please, aspeck?.....

I'll save you from losing your lunch!

Joshua Tree National Forest was pretty neat. Cooler up in the high desert ... was down to the upper 80's. No big horns seen, but did see coyote and a bunch of birds and ground mammals. Lot's of fun.

If you ever feel the need to partake in gambling or just get inside for awhile, there is always the casino in Cabazon. But I would probably take in the scenery, too. I love the outdoors

Wow, totally missed this . . . Sorry Art. Where you now? I would've recommended the Tram. Cool you did that.
