We have a 2008 Tahoe, the wheels on tandem trailer are constantly locking up. We have greased them and rinse well coming out of salt water. Today, we launched I pulled up the ramp and they locked up again!

How can we stop them from locking up? We keep in dry storage which is 100 yards from the ramp. We?re thinking of disconnecting the breaks totally. How easy is it to do that? Does anyone have a better solution?

Disk or drum brakes? If drum, I'd check the wheel cylinders to see if they have corroded. If disk brakes, I'd check the pucks in the calipers for corrosion.

Re: Q6 Tahoe Trailer Wheels lock up

My drums brakes have done this twice to me. Once last year on the left wheel, and again friday night on the right wheel. It locked up on my wife and she didn't know it, so it burned a flat spot in the tire. The cylinder is just corroded. I was able to rehone and clean up the old one last year, but I am putting new ones in this time.
I did disconnect the brake that failed me this time temporarily. I actually just removed the whole drum brake system. I'll re-install as soon as my new cylinder arrives. Since you have tandem axle, it tells me it must be a fairly large boat, so it depends on what you are pulling it with if it's safe not to have brakes on it. You definitely don't want your boat pushing you down steep hills or through a stoplight. But you'll have to be the judge of that.

We don't pull it far, its a 21 footer. We take it from the dry storage to the ramp and back. Total about 100 yards. May I ask where you ordered your replacements from?
