How important is having reverse on a pwc? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Re: pwc reverse question

not very important but it is certainly handy! Although it is not actually reverse, All you are doing is redirecting the thrust, if you throw it down while going full speed you will flip over forwards, the jetski will be on top of you, it will slam you into the water and the pwc will finally bounce upside down right over you. Ask me how I know...

Its very important if you actually want to go backwards ever tried to kick paddle a pwc? May also be required by law and or your insurance may also have an issue if yours is not operational and the worst happens. Why do you ask?

very few 2 seaters have that option I have only seen it on rxp and those are 2 seaters but they are big 2 seaters, most 3 seat er skies have them and they are nice to have especially if you like doing a sub move,, that is where you slam it in reverse while moving forward and sink the ski under the water, however you have to be accomplished at that or you can do what was mentioned earlier,, and be aware of the water depth as I slammed one in to the mud and flipped it on top of me back when I first tried to do it, was funny as heck. I find the ability to work the lever from forward to reverse and to neutral very helpfull when traveling in heavy traffic areas at slow speed. most times that is when I use it.

Re: pwc reverse question

Do not do as jeff described, you will destroy the reverse mechanism on most Yamaha's and seadoos, I do not know about the other companies because I HAVE NOT BROKEN the reverse on those PWC's yet, should be mentioned that I have never tried it with them.

Yes Jeff is right about it being easy to dock and it does make life a whole lot better. I can do things in tight quarters at a marina with my PWC that would make most boaters run and hide, WITHOUT the Reverse, it just takes practice! But with the reverse I/you will be a show off in the marina (with practice).

Take care and have fun.
