Hi:

I'm getting ready to put in 2 brand new 5.7L inboard engines into my 1985 SeaRay 300 Weekender.

I need any info or advice on doing the engine swap. My main concern is compatibility between a circa mid 1980's engine with a 1997 engine, both being mercruisers.

Please let me know about internet sources or good books for a job of this type.

Thanks.

ED

Make sure that the engine couplers are the same style. Merc came out with a new engine coupler with a grease fitting in the late 90's which required a change to the driveshaft. If the engines you are getting have the newer coupler they won't accept the shaft on your older drives.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm pretty knowledgeable with car applications with small blocks, but not with marine applications.

Other than the engine coupler, what else could cause problems between the '85 engine and the new '97 engine I'm going to install?

Are the wiring harnesses the same?

Thanks so much for your help.

Cheers,
Ed
