hi.......welcome to iboats.

i install towers professionally......nope......the centurions were great......most were top mounted....but you will need packing plates.

i use 1/2 inch ply that is fiberglassed.....then i glass that to the hull.....

but as far as actually beefing up the area....nope.

cheers

He meant "backing" plates . . .

HOTUB,

We discourage duplicate threads here. You moved so fast you may not have noticed that I merged these and deleted the other . . . ;) Good luck with the tower.

lol.....yep i ment backing plates. oops......lol...lets see if i can find pics

this is the candidate boat

as i mentioned.....most early centurions are a top mount

asembly004.jpg

these are the backing plates

asembly009.jpg

the backing plates will disperse the stress of the foot of the rack to a larger area of the hull......(just like you guessed)

this is what a standard post mount looks like.....the two thingys attached to the screws are a standard issue backing plate......this will just stop the screws from pulling thru.

asembly034.jpg

your boat's finish is called gellcoat....its not paint....but a fiberglass resin......the resin will rack into spider web like cracks called crazing if the gellcoat is stressed.. its not cheap to repair. so i fiberglass sections of wood called backing plates like you saw above to the hull........even kitty hair will do for this

asembly013.jpg

just pre drill the holes thru the backing plate and the hull......then fill the one side with kitty hair.....and bolt it to the area.

you have to be a real contortionist to get in some of the areas. ....after the glass is cured....then you remove the bolts.....and put the base on....and re bolt.
