Re: Putting a wakeboard tower on a 89 ski centurion tru trac 2
lol.....yep i ment backing plates. oops......lol...lets see if i can find pics
this is the candidate boat
as i mentioned.....most early centurions are a top mount
these are the backing plates
the backing plates will disperse the stress of the foot of the rack to a larger area of the hull......(just like you guessed)
this is what a standard post mount looks like.....the two thingys attached to the screws are a standard issue backing plate......this will just stop the screws from pulling thru.
your boat's finish is called gellcoat....its not paint....but a fiberglass resin......the resin will rack into spider web like cracks called crazing if the gellcoat is stressed.. its not cheap to repair. so i fiberglass sections of wood called backing plates like you saw above to the hull........even kitty hair will do for this
just pre drill the holes thru the backing plate and the hull......then fill the one side with kitty hair.....and bolt it to the area.
you have to be a real contortionist to get in some of the areas. ....after the glass is cured....then you remove the bolts.....and put the base on....and re bolt.
