Long story, short... I have the above mentioned motor that needs a new home. (Old boat has rotten transom.) It runs pretty damn good, and I have several props for it. I'm looking for a solid boat that is in need of a motor, and came across one that looks promising. I'm sure I would need to do a lot of re-fitting, but is it worth it? What all would I have to do? The Evinrude has all mechanical connections. I assume I can't just move the remote control over to the 'new' boat, as it appears to be integrated into the 'new' boat. The ignition is on the dash, and the throttle lever is 'in' the side of the boat. Any help would be appreciated.

The answer depends on a few things. What model and make of boat the 115 is going on? What are your mechanical and electrical skills and have you any marine repair experience? Then we can get into the details such as, are the control cables on the 115 long enough? It ain't rocket science but it is science. As far as if it is worth it? Only you can answer that question after the job is done.

If the controls in the " new boat " have a big red plug on the wiring harness you are good to go.------But--usually the the 76 motor controls should stay with the 76 motor.

Here's where I'm at. Picked up a 96 Glastron GS 180 FS. Mounted the 1976 Evinrude on the back. Pulled the old steering cables(2) out to replace with the new cable(1) that I bought for the 16' Crestliner. Well, hate to admit this, but was just a tad short. I know, I know, measure FIRST. No big deal. Anyway...

What are your mechanical and electrical skills and have you any marine repair experience? - I believe I am capable of both the mechanical and electrical skills.

Then we can get into the details such as, are the control cables on the 115 long enough? - Haven't measured the controls yet, but the ones on the boat are 'concealed'. If need be, I can just mount the old control box as designed. Not ideal, but if I can make it work...

Anything else I should be concerned with?
