Hell all, thanks for your help on my last posting. I did get the motor up and running again. It was the safety switch which grounds the solenoid to the engine block.

I am wondering if anyone knows where I can get the push button shift control for my 1971 Evinrude 50hp. It is a three button shift control original part # 0279090. I was told it is no longer available from the dealer...any suggestions?

thanks

keith

Re: push button shift control

eBay or an outboard junkyard, like tcoutboard.com. Finding a good one may be a bit dicey. All of them are 30 years old or older, since OMC dropped the electric shift concept in the 1970s.

I see them on eBay from time to time, but there's not always one available. tcoutboard may well have one for you, though.

It is possible to make your own, using nothing more complicated than a two way switch with a center off position.

You gotta watch them close too. The one for a hydro-electric looks just like the one for a straight electric shift. But the buttons - obviously - work different.
