Re: Pursuit 2870

Moisture in the transom is common with older boats and not specifically a Pursuit issue. Needs to be monitored for further problems. Moisture along the strakes would be an early indication of blister formation perhaps.

Are these show stoppers for you?

Like tpenfield said, water is unfortunately fairly common in older wood and fiberglass boats, and has nothing to do with it being a Pursuit. Sucks to pay for a survey on a boat you wanted and have it reveal this kind of stuff (been there), but it saved you many thousands in reconstruction cost. Hopefully you were present during the survey and learned a little about how to weed out the junk before you pay for another one.

(before you assume the seller was trying to get away with something, you wouldn't have known the condition except for the survey. Good chance he wasn't aware of it, either. Just another example of why one really has to cover one's backside when buying a used boat.)

Best of luck.

Re: Pursuit 2870

definitely a judgement call as to how much moisture and how widespread. . . Both powerboats that I bought over the past 10 years had some elevated levels of moisture in certain areas. My decision was that it was manageable, as they were not too bad.

Excellent point. OP, what did the surveyor say about the degree of water intrusion? The surveyor of my Four Winns also noted 'slightly elevated' moisture levels in the transom. In his opinion it wasn't enough to worry about, so I didn't.

What year?
I recently had the pleasure of having A factory tour of their facility.

Their product is top notch and most everything is manufactured in house. The Slickers Family still owns the company, along with Tiara. Did the Surveyor give you a moisture content? It's usually noted as Dry, Moist or Wet.

If it is not a quick decision, then I would say your answer is no.
