Hello
I'm Purchasing a 1986 Beretta with a 4 cylinder Merc cruiser for very cheap about 500 dollars..but the Floor is completely rotted and it will need to be redone, i don't know know weather it will be worth it in the long run to buy this and have to replace the whole floor plus all the stuff underneath the floor like the stringers... Any thoughts or comments would be awesome

Thanks

Really depends on the exact mercruiser if it is a 3.7,470, or 488 run away

A soft deck might set you back 2-3k and a season worth of work

Cancer starts on the inside

If it is a 3 liter or 4.3 liter mercruiser then it might be worth parting out

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,....
A complete runnin' driveline in a rotten hull, is a donor boat to refit a Good hull, with a Dead/ Frozen/ Cracked motor- drive...

If ya bought it for the driveline, ya did Good,....

If ya bought it thinkin' yer goin' boatin' soon,...
You've got Alotta work ahead of ya...

IMO fixing up junk boats other than collectibles:

If you are interested in spending spare time boating, no.
If you are interested in spending spare time fixing old rotted fiberglass, yes.

Unless you are in the business of "parting things out" don't buy a boat to part it out.

If a boat will need $2000 of body work at cost, ask yourself, would you buy that same boat fixed up for $4,000, engine as is?
(That's to pay yourself something for your time).

And that's assuming you know for certain the engine/drive is in good working order.
If you don't know that for sure, consider it as if it had no motor or drive. Still interested?

What you pay for a junk boat has nothing to do with what you have on your hands when you get it home.

The amount you spend to fix it up has nothing to do with its sale value when you finish.
