How many pulses per rev should my tach be set for for my 1975 johnson 135 V4 ? Its set on 6 now and I think that may be wrong. TIA

Re: pulses/rev

If its an E/J tach the correct position is 6.

Good luck!

Re: pulses/rev

6? A 4 cylinder engine would have 4 pulses per revolution right? or am I missing someting?

Re: pulses/rev

The tach reads the alternator side of the stator rather than the ignition side.

Good luck!

Re: pulses/rev

dhadley is correct. The engine has a 12 pole alternator, and counts 6 pulses per rev.

Re: pulses/rev

im not sure if its a E/J tach it doesn't have any brand name on it but i can post some pics if that would help. It has a little round twisting dial on the back that has the lable pul/rev next to it and that is it. it was set on 6 when i got it and am doing some re-wiring right now and have all the gauges out of the boat. Are you saying that because of the type of stator on it that it should be set on a 6 pulse setting? Thanks for all the help guys.
