pulse pack Maintenance?

i lost spark on my 1968 johnson 100hp outboard. i ordered a new pulse pack and
pulse transformer. thank god it fixed the problem. Are there any tips out there that would maybe prevent me from blowing the new pack? this is my first boat, and im learning as i go. any advice would be much appreciated. thanks for all the help...

clean tight connections. and do not connect battery backwards.
