Hey guys, I have a 15 foot trihull with a 55 hp johnson on it, runs great and all, but when you start picking up speed it pulls to the right really hard, the steering wheel turns the motor really easy no problem there. Any ideas what the problem could be. thanks

Re: pulls to the right

Check the direction of the trim tab anode, it should be pointed in the direction you want the boat to go.

2nd that....It should be trimed for cruise, or your most common speed, because you can never get it perfect for all speeds.

Re: pulls to the right

A trim tab is a fin on the aft bottom of the anti-cavitation plate. Its right behind and slightly above the propeller. Yours is not correclty adjusted, or the tab broke off (its also part of the zinc anode). All you need is a deep socket wrench and 1 minute to adjust it....its connected with a single bolt.

There is a section in your owners manual about it. If you don't have a manual, google outboard trim tab and I'm sure you'll find a picture of it somewhere online.

Re: pulls to the right

Adjust this tab to the side the boat pulls to, in your case to the right (counter clockwise looked from above).
You ll notice that the boat reacts to this but the tab has less efficiency at higher speed.

hydrolic steering thanks again.

Then, the trim tab anode and can work in a negative way by producing steering torque. There are anodes without the tab for hydraulic steering!!

This is an outboard. I don't know what he means by hydraulic steering, but the only anodes without tabs are used on I/O's with 'Power" steering. He needs the tab to reduce the steering torque.
