Will a 30hp on a 14 foot boat pull a single person tube?

You can pull it slowly, but probabally faster than with the 60hp on my parents pontoon ;)

Re: Pulling tube with 30hp

We've pulled our kids for years behind a 14' aluminum v-hull with a 9.9 HP outboard. It was fun when they were little (sub-70 lbs.), mostly because they had low expectations. I could get up on plane (eventually) but I could not get enough speed to swing them outside of the wake. I would think a 30hp might do bit better.

We did find that pulling a tube beat on our 14' aluminum pretty bad... Seemed to put a lot of stress on the transom handles, etc., when zigging ang zagging to make the ride interesting. Ours is a fairly light boat - a bare Sea Nymph.

Lots of drag to get a tube on plane.
We tried it with a 14' alum. and a 30 hp Johnson last summer. Did not happen.

I don't know what our prop was other than than it looked stock and in good shape. Maybe with a lower pitch.

BOrrow a tube and give it a try!

I have wakeboarded, tubed, and my buddy even slalomed behind a 40hp four stroke a couple years ago! (I couldn't slalom behind it, at 200 + pounds!)

That was an aluminum fishing boat with a console, so not completely stripped out!

Cheers

Re: Pulling tube with 30hp

Had my kids out for the first time this weekend with my 16" Starcraft with a 40HP Mercury and they loved it. Was able to swing them outside the wake. Was going about 25MPH.
