Hey all!
86 OMC 5.0 Chevy

I'm pulling my heads to change the gasket, and wanted to ask if there is anything to look out for.

I have my OMC manual, and will be following that. Once they are off, I will be taking them to the machine shop to get refurbed. I was quoted $425 for full machining, installing hardened guide jackets, and if there are any damaged valves, he will replace those for $8 a piece. This sound like a fair price? I'm in Las Vegas, so I'm sure there are lots of shops to choose from.

Anything else I should check out on the pistons or anything while I'm in there? Does the OMC book tell me everything I need to know to reassemble?

Also, which Head gasket and valve cover gaskets do I need to use? IIRC, its okay to get this part at pepboys, right?

Thanks!

Re: pulling the heads

You would be better off buying the marine gasket set from NAPA. It will come with manifold and thermostat gaskets that your going to need. I don't think Pepboys sells marine parts.
