2007 VP SX-A outdrive...150 hrs or so
I am planning on pulling my outdrive off for the first time to inspect and re-lube, but do not know exactly what to look for as far as indications of abnormal wear or other potentially negative issues. Drive seems to be running perfect, so this will be purely for inspection and prev. maint. purposes.
I have turned wrenches on cars for years and feel comfortable with identification of parts, etc, but knowing what part you are looking at is different than knowing how that part should look when healthy vs. symptomatic or otherwise abnormal (e.g. I know how spark plugs should look when pulled...is there similar "tell-tales" to look for?)
I may have an authorized VP tech pull it, but I also would like to know what to look for just in case they are "less than honorable" with there repair recommendation(s).
Lastly, would this question be answered by a service manual available to purchase? Pulling the outdrive would be the most "invasive" level of work I plan on doing. All other maintenance procedures are simple enough without a manual (engine oil/filter, outdrive gear lube, etc.) and I don't want to spend the money on a manual unnecessarily.
