I have to replace the stator, is there a trick to removing the fly wheel? Any special tools required? I have removed the pull-cord but am lost on how to get the flywheel off. Rocks

Re: Pulling Fly-wheel old 9.9

I'm not familiar with the 9.9, but most merc's have a tapped hole in the center that you screw a puller in, then a threaded bolt crews down through the puller and rests on the crankshaft end. With the nut loose or removed on the crank shaft you screw the bolt down tight till it pops. Most have a tapered spline on the crank. It takes a ridgid puller to pop them loose. Don't recamend beating on the flywheel as it has magnets in it and it is expensive to replace...................Jerry

Does the flywheel have three threaded holes in the top? If so, you can use an harmonic balancer puller from an auto parts store to get the flywheel off.
