Pulled unknown screw in the dark

I removed a screw from my OMC Cobra lower unit that does not appear to have an attachment point. Screw is on port side of upper housing across from Cobra sticker on starboard side. Screw was removed in error in the dark while draining lower unit (should have removed vent screw on starboard side). Problem is hole does not have any threads and I can not figure out any means of filling this hole. I have checked the Chymer manual and do not see this screw anywhere. Please help!!! Also a few years ago I read an article on using a tank to winterize Inboard \ Outboards, this allows the owner to use boat during the winter months, any help on winter operation of these would be appreciated.

It is a 1989 model, screw has threads, housing does not. I am starting to think that it is a bearing carrier, and I will have to tear down the entire upper unit to fix. This is foward of the water pump section, I pulled the screww in the dark and do no know if water drained out.
