Pull Tube Which Way?

DW has decided that she wants to tube behind our Sun Tracker pontoon.
I have 2 options for hook up. I have a hook on the top of each pontoon. I could rig a Y harness to those, but I've been told not to beacause those hooks are not designed to be pressured sideways and I could end up with a crack in the weld and possible water in logs.
I have one and only one cleat ( factory installed) on the left side. I'm wondering if it would be strong enough to do the job.
I'm thinking this tube craze will not last, so I don't want to get into any modifications unless I really need to.
All ideas appreciated.

I have never heard of a pontoon cracking/leaking because of pulling on the tie-down tabs from tubing. That's what most people use unless they have a newer-model pontoon with the ski-tow ring. Attach to the tabs, not the cleat (the cleat is likely just bolted to the wood floor and will rip out).

I use the lift eyes with no problem. My friends do too. It's true they're not really designed for it, but that's what the boat dealers in my area recommend. You can buy a harness specifically with that setup in mind. It comes with two heavy duty spring clips that clip right into the eyes and a clevis for the tow rope.
