Have an old (1988) Nissan 2-stroke 5 hp NS 5B. Pull rope is not catching, so it doesn't turn over and start. I'm not mechanically inclined -- any chances I can fix it? How?<br /><br />Mac
Hi, Mac.<br /><br />The "dogs" in your recoil starter are not catching the flywheel, I think.<br /><br />Servicing the recoil starter is probably as close as you can get to a hazardous operation on an engine that isn't running. That spring in there is like a rattler in a hole. . . it can have a painful bite.<br /><br />If you don't have a Repair Manual AND wrenching skills I would take it to a small engine or outboard shop.<br /><br />Good luck.
