Last night while testing my outboard before moving my sailboat the pull cord broke off. Thinking this was no big deal I popped the top unscrewed a couple machine screws and rethreaded the cord. I reassembled the unit and now it does not pull or retract. Instead of doing further damage i thought I'd see if you guys had any suggestions. Thanks for any help you might have. I know I can buy new cord, but should I buy a new wheel? Is there a spring that sprung when I pulled the unit? Is there a trick to getting it seated right? Obviously I'm a newbie to fixing engines, but I need to be able to do this stuff since the shop won't be out on the water with me.
Thanks,
Gus

just from your description it does not sound like you have broken anything just not put it together right, before doing anymore I would pick up a service manual, most are self explanatory :)

between the housing and pulley there should be a spring , the center of the spring should have a hook on it which hooks to the pulley , that is the rewind spring :)
