Crappy Cell phone picture, but it seems to be in great shape and a semi recent paint job, not counting some scratches on the bottom front.

Now I just need to find the Engine hookups for the remote setup for my 77 or 78 Mercury Model 200 20hp engine...

And I would settle for some good pictures of how it connects to the engine, but the engine does have places to connect cables, it just seems like there should be a bracket....

And this is my first boat :D

Welcome to the insanity!!
First boat huh? Well you will be addicted to tin now! lol

Great looking boat...A mod may come by and tell ya..but you should resize your pics to 640x480...

Also good job on actually posting the pic 99.9% correctly!

Yea, another Jet Star. Welcome, there are about 10+ of us working on the same boat. Others will be along soon to congratulate you on buying the BEST of the long heritage of SC. ;) Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Re: Proud New owner of a Starcraft Jetstar

Thanks, I'm happy with it so far :)

I went to a marine dealer and they had everything short of the actual engine hookups for the remote controls.

If all else fails I'll try and get a good idea of what I need and head to an auto junkyard and improvise.

And anyidea how much a windshield runs on this thing (guessing there is one due to the holes)?

And I have to put the right fender back on, but I do have it.:D

A zillion dollars. Be on the lookout for a used one. Check out my Jupiter link to see how I adapted a standard bowrider one to my previous boat.

Welcome to the club, Jet Stars are truly classic tin ski rigs well worthy of restoring.

If I were you I'd spend some time(hours and hours:p) checking out Bananaboater's resto thread, he is far too humble and won't tell you himself...but he has done a spectacular job on his rig.

Plenty of good tips to be found in all the various Starcraft threads as well.

Check ebay for the controls, might get lucky there.

Re: Proud New owner of a Starcraft Jetstar

Well I managed to get the steering hooked up, but there seems to be some weird slack when moving the steering wheel side to side... I plan on looking at it closer this weekend.

And I got a remote throttle connected, and I made my own lever, due to the cheapest one I can find is $250...

I still need to figure out how to do a remote shift, it almost looks like there is a mount for a solenoid or something for the shift, there is even a place for the cable to seat and connect to the shifter from under the cover, but I can't find anything on it, so I may just improvise.

next I need to hook up the lights and get my safety equipment and get out on the lake! :D

Ditto! Sorry it took so long to find your post, I've been on vacation for a couple weeks. Your boat looks to be in pretty good shape. Jets and Jet Stars are pretty sharp looking little boats....I think! Your 20 might be good for fishing, but I bet you'll want something bigger sooner or later.

My windshield is salvageable, but has a small chunk missing from one corner. I'm keeping my eye out for something I can use on ebay. If you're inclined, here's an article where a fellow iboater made his own windshield, but you'd need at least an old frame first. I might try that if I get adventurous too. http://shareaproject.com/pages/imageDetail,p,68,i,608,00.html

Hope to see lots more photos and good luck!

Re: Proud New owner of a Starcraft Jetstar

Cool thanks

And I got the shifter figured out mostly... I bought a cable a bit to short due to I ended up having to wrap the shifter cable around the engine.... long story short I push and pull on the cable to shift. Works great for now though!

I have taken it out twice so far, first time with just me and my wife and it worked great, and had good speed.

Today I took it out with a coworker and his three boys, and it was a dog.

I could hardly get any speed at all, but it worked great!

Next I need to get a longer cable and then setup a better shifter.

Then I start on making it nicer, and I want to add a spedo and redo the dash, right now it is showing the wood and needs some love.

And I took the whole steering apart to look it over, the play I am getting is from where the shaft goes into the big spool, and does not seem to be an issue.

Once I get some extra money I'm going to replace all of the pullies and the cable.

And I was reading another starcraft thread and someone had the same rear supports I have, the three in the middle for the engine, is that a little weird?

Those 3 knees are classic older SC build. Mid to late 60's they went to one in the middle. Overbuilt but I like the 3, SC tough.

That's why I have no reservations about throwing a 50 on mine, it could probably take more, but I won't chance it. I'm a believer in the ratings.

Gibbles, that 20 is gonna work hard with a full load on your hull. :)

Re: Proud New owner of a Starcraft Jetstar

Yeah, I'll have to keep an eye out for a bigger engine, but people around here think boat engines are made out of gold, even the really old ones...

I may have better luck this winter, but the 20 will work great for my needs for now. :)

And I think I have the boat launch thing figured out, this boat should be pretty easy to launch on my own. :D
