propulsion question

New to boats I am. I have seen a new/used heavy LOWE brand boat for sale. Fishing machine 165-16ft metal, wide "V" with 25hp 4 stroke Mercury. Hull weight is likely to be 955 pounds. Question: is this rig under powered? I think boat is rated to 75hp max.

double the hp, and you will be happier.

Good rule of thumb is you want 70% of the max rated HP for good performance.

It would get you around for fishing in small lakes and rivers, but definitely no speed boat! Just depends on what you want/need it for. Good Luck!
