I have been watching this forum for about a year and obtained info when needed.

I had some fuel/pump issues this year, with his help I am all set and running good so far.

thanks Rodbolt

If you ever come to CT give me a shout and I will take you fishing and supply the beer.

Re: props to rodbolt

glad I could help
sorry if I occasionally get snippy or a bit sarchstic.
I deal with this stuff every day and its not my fault its gotten so expensive.
friday I had to do a VST cleaning on a VZ225, I walked out to the boat with about 240 dollars worth of filters and Orings and clamps before I even lifeted a wrench for the 1.5 hour operation at $80/hr.
guy was screaming about a ripoff when he picked it up. my only advice was to simply change the water seperator more often and try to use quality fuels and once it sits over 3 months toss it out.
or I will do it again and again.
you guys should see what ethanol fuel does when it sits vented to the atmophere for 3 months, it tends to get small white paratroopers in the fuel that will pass the water seperator and start collecting in fuel bowls and VST bowls.
if you dont like it call your congressman or senator and lets get Alcohol back in the correct bottle and out of our gasoline.

Rodbolt, I too, have observed your advice, and even the snippy at times, but you know your stuff. So we do appreciate your knowledge. So seeing what you said about the alcohol in our gas tanks, I have a question, " What, if anything is on the market that would be a additive that would help with the "parachute" issue?" I've always added a octane booster to my 30 gallon tank to offset the octane deficiency at the pump. Maybe there is something that would help in the alcohol issue.

Re: props to rodbolt

so far? all I have found is constnt water seperator changes using a 10 micron filter and prayer.
in my immediate area we dont have E10,yet. we were notified that by the end of june we will.
stand by, let the whining begin. but its not my fault, it was like that when I got to it.
all I can do is fix it.
in small tanks and non-vented systems(automotive) they dont see quite the isues.
most boats carry 60 plus gallons and are vented to the atmosphe Via a 5/8ths hose.
couple that with a fairly moist operating environment and bad things happen as it sits month after month.
just had a cutomer call last week, he let his fuel(245 gallons) sit from oct until last week. I reccomended he dispose of it,change the filters and refuel.
he decided to run it, the workorder is now on my board.
I hope he did not hole a piston but the service order doesnt look good, its a pair of 200 OX 66 motors.
not my fault, I warned him.
now I may hve to not only pump the tank but fix a power head. funny thing is the price of the tank pump stays the same.

Re: props to rodbolt

We have had the ethanol for at least 4 years now, and when I first got my old 88 4.3 Cobra it ran OK, then the next season, it had no power under load and would not plane off the boat at all. I took it to the best sterndrive mechanic around, he found a corroded anti siphon valve and some water in the carb, the tank was OK though. He replaced the ant-siphon with a better quality one and rebuild the Q-Jet. Since then it's been fine the last 4 seasons, I always change the fuel water seperator and use stabil at the end of the season. I am going to up grade to a Racor 10 micron the next time I change it, they probably are the best around and can hold a lot more water than the others. I have used the Sierra 28 micron ones without trouble but now we need all the help we can get.

Just another example of the govt forcing things on people because of special interest groups, and not listenting to anyone who understands machines.
I find it interesting that the FAA does not allow ethanol in av-gas. Maybe if gas powered boats were used to transport passengers the Coast Guard would same thing.

It seems that OBs were more affected than sterndrives, because of smaller passages in the carbs and more sensitivity (at least 2 strokes) to lean running.

Re: props to rodbolt

Just to chime in a bit but Robbolt has been a Godsend! I purchased a 03 F225 installed and rigged it my self with the help of Robolt. Took her out for the first
run two weeks ago and could not get it above 4500rpm with it cutting out other wise it run great!
I have worked on my 2 stroke for many years but knew nothing about these 4 strokes...
Rodbolt gave me some suggestions and things to look for in the Fuel system.
and after checking line and hoses and fuel pressure the last thing I checked
the small little filter screen on the bottom of the high pressure pump, it was clogged with a varnish looking substance and some black dirt. A few shots of carb cleaner put it all back together she runs like a champ! That saved me a bit of cash not having to bring it to the local Yami dealer.....

ROBBOLT ROCKS !!!!!!!!

The four stroker is awsome!
